Typefully review: the best editor on this shelf, if you live on X.
Typefully is a writing and scheduling tool built first for X and extended to LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon: a fast distraction-free editor, pixel-accurate previews, thread tools, a calendar, AI that writes and rewrites, an API and an MCP server. As of 22 September 2026 it is free for 10 posts a month, $99 a year on the Creator plan, annual billing only, and $18 a month per social set billed yearly on Business. Its analytics are X only. This review says what it does, what it costs, how good the LinkedIn side really is, where it beats Sonar and where Sonar differs.
What Typefully does
Typefully is a writing tool first and a scheduler second, and that order is the whole product. You write in a clean editor with no feed beside it, see a preview that matches what will publish, and schedule it, either by picking a slot on the calendar or by typing when you want it to go. Threads are native: auto-numbering, a thread finisher, long-form posts. The pricing table names five platforms to publish to, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Threads and Mastodon, and the landing sums the promise up as cross-posting to all of them at once.
Around the editor sit the things a serious X account needs: detailed metrics, profile conversion rate, posting streaks and a CSV download, all filed under "X Analytics"; an engagement set that is X-shaped throughout, replying to tweets, scheduled retweets, an automatic plug, auto-DMs and giveaways, thread finisher quotes and X Communities; and an integration list that is unusually deep for a tool this size, a free API, an MCP server, AI agent skills, Claude, ChatGPT, Notion, Slack notifications, Raycast and Zapier, plus a Mac app. Its AI both writes and edits. The LinkedIn page offers "suggestions, post ideas, and rewrites powered by AI", its FAQ says Typefully "has an AI writing tool built in to help you generate LinkedIn posts, fix grammar, add emojis, and more", and the same page points at a free AI LinkedIn Post Generator "to generate LinkedIn posts from simple inputs and ideas you might have". AI usage is included on the paid plans.

What Typefully costs
Three public plans and an enterprise tier, as typefully.com/pricing showed them on 22 September 2026with the Business toggle switched both ways. The prices are drawn in the browser rather than served in the page, so a plain fetch of the pricing page returns none of them; these were read from the rendered page. The unit above the free plan is the social set, which Typefully's help centre defines as "a collection of social media accounts for a person or brand, making it easy to write your content once and cross-post across platforms".

How good is the LinkedIn side
Better than a cross-poster and thinner than a LinkedIn tool. The good part is real: Typefully's FAQ says it has "a native integration with LinkedIn allowing you to schedule any type of post", text, images, videos and GIFs; you can publish to your personal profile, to a LinkedIn Company Page and to other people's profiles you have permission for, which is why ghostwriting agencies use it; and an "Add LinkedIn comment" button schedules the first comment to go out with the post, which most tools cannot do on LinkedIn's self-serve API tier. PDF carousels are listed as a LinkedIn premium feature on the paid plans.
The thin part is the numbers. Every analytics line on the pricing table sits under the heading "X Analytics", and there is no LinkedIn equivalent, so your LinkedIn results still live inside LinkedIn. The engagement features are X-shaped too. If LinkedIn is your main room, you are buying a very good editor and publisher for it, and reading your performance somewhere else.
Who Typefully is for
Typefully is for the founder whose first platform is X. If you think in threads, care how a post looks before it ships, and want the scheduling to get out of your way, nothing else on this shelf feels as good to write in, and the free plan is generous enough to prove it before you pay. For anyone building on X with LinkedIn as the second room, at $99 a year it is the cheapest serious tool here by a distance.
It fits less well in two cases. The first is where the material comes from. Typefully's AI generates from what you hand it, a prompt, an idea, a rough draft, so you still arrive at the editor with the thing to say; Sonar starts a step earlier, from the week you already had. The second is measurement: if LinkedIn is your main room, the missing LinkedIn analytics will send you back to LinkedIn's own dashboard every week.
Where Typefully beats Sonar
Three things Typefully does that Sonar does not do, or does less of, checked against Typefully's pages and Sonar's code on the same day.
The writing experience, and the price of it
Typefully's editor is the product: distraction-free, pixel-accurate previews, auto-numbered threads, natural-language scheduling, keyboard shortcuts, a Mac app, and a free plan that includes real scheduling. Sonar has a composer and a LinkedIn preview with the fold drawn, and it is not trying to be a writing environment. If you love writing and want the best desk to do it at, Typefully is the better tool, and $99 a year against $99 a month is not a close comparison on price either.
Five networks, and other people's accounts
Typefully publishes to X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon, to a LinkedIn Company Page, and to profiles you have permission for, with teams, roles and up to 50 social sets on Business. Sonar covers LinkedIn and X for one founder in one workspace, with no second seat and no company page. For an agency or anyone writing for someone else, Typefully is built for it and Sonar is not.
X analytics and the X engagement set
Detailed X metrics, profile conversion rate, streaks and a CSV export, plus scheduled retweets, an automatic plug and reply tools. Sonar reads your X numbers through your own X connection and shows them on its Insights desk, but it has no conversion-rate view, no CSV export and no engagement automation.
Where Sonar differs
The post starts from your week
Typefully opens an empty editor, which is the point of it. Sonar opens with what already happened. It connects read-only to Google Calendar, Google Meet, Slack, Granola, Fireflies, Wispr Flow, Notion and Zoom, reads the last seven days about once a week, and keeps the moments worth saying with the source each came from. Five drafts are dealt onto Home every week from those moments, a story you told it, a development in your niche and a pillar you chose. The transcript text is processed in memory and discarded.
The people rule
Reading your meetings creates a duty an editor never has. Private people who appear in your week never reach a draft: a client, a colleague or a candidate is written as a role, both in the miner that extracts the moment and in the instructions every draft is written under.
One voice, two registers, and LinkedIn numbers
Sonar treats LinkedIn and X as one identity with a register each: a LinkedIn draft gets an X sibling in X's register with one tap, and a long X take becomes a native thread at X's own limits. On the measurement side it is the mirror of Typefully: your LinkedIn impressions arrive through the Sonar for LinkedIn Chrome extension, which reads only the numbers LinkedIn itself has labelled on your own analytics pages, so LinkedIn is the room Sonar can show you and X analytics is where Typefully is stronger.
A voice you can put numbers on
Typefully's AI works on what you bring it. Sonar writes from a voice it has measured: sentence length, the share of sentences under eight words, paragraph length, how often you ask a question, taken from your published posts and held on every draft, with LinkedIn cliches and AI vocabulary banned outright except where a phrase is already yours. Edits you make before posting become standing voice rules you can mute.

Pick Typefully if
- X is your first platform and threads are how you think.
- You enjoy the writing and want the best editor, the truest preview and the calmest scheduling, for $99 a year or nothing at all.
- You write for other people, or run several brands, and need teams, roles and many accounts.
Pick Sonar if
- Your week is full of meetings and the posts should come from them, with private people written as roles by rule.
- LinkedIn is your main room and you want your impressions, your history and a weekly read of them in one place.
- You would rather approve five drafts a week than face an empty editor five times a week.
The short version: Typefully is the better tool for a writer on X. Sonar is the better tool for a founder who has the material and no time to write it. Plenty of founders could run both, Typefully as the desk and Sonar as the source. How Sonar drafts from your week shows one invented week end to end.
