AuthoredUp review: the editor for people who write their own posts.
AuthoredUp is a LinkedIn editor and analytics tool for people who write their own posts: text styling, a readability grade, a multi-device preview with the fold, hooks and endings, drafts and snippets, scheduling through its Chrome extension, and analytics that reach back through your whole post history. It costs $19.95 a month, or $16.63 billed yearly, as of 22 September 2026, LinkedIn only, and its AI writer is in closed beta. AuthoredUp is the tool for people who write their own posts, so this review weighs the editor, the preview and the analytics, and says who should not buy it.
What AuthoredUp does
AuthoredUp calls itself "the ultimate LinkedIn content creation & analytics tool" and promises to help you "create and analyze your content in clicks, not hours". It is two things in one Chrome extension and web app. The first is an editor: bold, italic, bullets, numbered lists and emoji that LinkedIn does not offer natively, a readability grade from 1 to 14 with length warnings as you type, a preview of the exact feed view on desktop and mobile in light and dark mode including the "see more" fold, a library of 200 or more opening lines and 150 or more endings, unlimited drafts and snippets, and a read-only link to share a draft for review. Scheduling, reminders to post and to come back for the comments, and a calendar across your profile, company pages and groups sit beside it; scheduling and the richer attachments publish through the extension.
The second is analytics. The extension collects every post you have published, going back years by its own description, and reports a performance dashboard, a follower growth timeline, this period against last, your best post type, day, length and readability, a side-by-side comparison of two posts, and per-post saves, sends, reach, profile views and followers gained, with CSV export and an API key on every plan. One line on the pricing table matters for this review: "Coauthor: AI writing in your voice" is marked Beta and "currently in closed beta". Today AuthoredUp edits, previews and measures; the writing is yours to do.

Who AuthoredUp is for
AuthoredUp is for the founder who writes. If you already have the sentences and want them to read well in the feed, to see the fold before you post, to keep your best lines as snippets and to read your own numbers properly afterwards, it does that job for under $20 a month, inside LinkedIn through the extension. On the Business plan it is also a sensible tool for an agency or a ghostwriter running several clients' profiles who wants the analytics and the collaboration without paying per seat.
It is not the tool for the blank page. Nothing on AuthoredUp's pages finds your material or drafts the post; the one AI line on the pricing table is in closed beta. A founder who stopped posting because Friday came and the week was gone will have a very good editor and nothing in it. It is also LinkedIn only, so a founder on X still needs a second tool.
Where AuthoredUp beats Sonar
Three things AuthoredUp does better than Sonar, checked against AuthoredUp's pages and Sonar's code on the same day.
The editor and the preview
AuthoredUp's editor is the best part of the product and better than Sonar's at the mechanics of a post: unicode bold and italic, bullets and numbered lists, an emoji palette, a readability grade with length warnings as you type, 200-plus hooks and 150-plus endings, snippets, and a desktop and mobile preview in light and dark that shows the fold, all inside LinkedIn through the extension. Sonar has a LinkedIn preview with the fold at about 210 characters and a live character count, and two free tools, a post formatter and a post preview, but no readability grade, no snippets, no hook library and no editor inside LinkedIn. For the last mile of formatting, AuthoredUp wins.
Your own numbers, in depth
AuthoredUp goes deeper into your own account: per-post saves, sends, reach, profile views and followers gained, every post you ever published collected with its numbers, a growth timeline that names the posts behind each jump, a side-by-side comparison, a best-time heatmap from your own history, CSV export and an API key. Sonar's extension reads the figures LinkedIn labels on your analytics pages, impressions, engagements, members reached, profile views, search appearances and followers, and only those, by a deliberately strict rule; your post history carries the public reactions and comments; there is no per-post saves or sends, no CSV export and no analytics API. If the numbers are what you came for, AuthoredUp has more of them.
The price and the posture
$19.95 a month for one profile, with company pages included and unlimited people invited on the Business plan at no per-seat charge, is a fifth of Sonar's $99. AuthoredUp's pages also state a posture some buyers want in writing: no LinkedIn cookies collected, no automation, and all data hosted in Germany. Sonar's security page states its own: read-only sources, transcript text processed in memory and discarded, hosting in Singapore. If EU hosting is a requirement, AuthoredUp says it meets it and Sonar does not.
Where Sonar differs
The post starts from your week
AuthoredUp starts when you have written something. Sonar starts before that. It connects read-only to Google Calendar, Google Meet, Slack, Granola, Fireflies, Wispr Flow, Notion and Zoom, reads the last seven days about once a week, and keeps the moments worth saying, a decision, a win, a lesson, with the source each came from. Every week five drafts are dealt onto Home from those moments, a story you told it, a development in your niche and a pillar you chose. The raw transcript text is processed in memory and discarded. A founder using both would draft in Sonar and could still polish in AuthoredUp; the two barely overlap.
The people rule
Once a tool reads your calendar and your transcripts it needs a rule about the people in them. Sonar's is that private people never reach a draft: a client, a colleague or a candidate is written as a role, in the instructions every draft is produced under and in the miner that extracts the moments. AuthoredUp reads nothing of the kind, so it has no such rule to state.
A second platform on the same identity
AuthoredUp is a LinkedIn tool through and through. Sonar keeps one voice across LinkedIn and X with a register for each room: an X sibling of any LinkedIn draft is one tap away, a long X take becomes a native thread at X's own limits, and each room publishes on its own.
Your voice, measured and written to
At sign-up Sonar imports your published posts and builds an Intelligence Pack: who you are, what you stand for, your credibility and how you write. The voice is measured, sentence length, the share of sentences under eight words, paragraph length, how often you ask a question, and every draft is held to those numbers, with LinkedIn cliches banned outright and repeated edits before posting becoming standing voice rules you can mute. AuthoredUp measures your readability; Sonar measures your voice and writes to it.

Pick AuthoredUp if
- You write your own posts and want the best editor, preview and formatting inside LinkedIn.
- You want your own LinkedIn numbers in depth, with history, comparisons and an export.
- Your audience is on LinkedIn alone and $20 a month is the budget.
Pick Sonar if
- Your problem is the material: the week is full of meetings and the posts should come from them, with private people written as roles by rule.
- You post on LinkedIn and X and want one voice with a register for each.
- You want drafts in a voice measured from your own posts, waiting every week, and you will accept a plainer editor.
The short version: AuthoredUp is the better tool for finishing a post you wrote. Sonar is the better tool for having a post to finish. They can be used together, and a founder who loves AuthoredUp's editor loses nothing by drafting in Sonar first. How Sonar drafts from your week shows one invented week end to end.
The short form of this section, the table and the two verdicts alone, is Sonar vs AuthoredUp; every comparison Sonar has written is listed under all comparisons.
AuthoredUp alternatives
Four tools founders look at when AuthoredUp's missing AI drafting is the sticking point, one line each with the price as read on 22 September 2026. The first three draft the post, which AuthoredUp does not; that is usually the reason for looking.
- Taplio. The widest LinkedIn feature set in one subscription: AI writing from a prompt, a viral-post library, a deep scheduling queue, engagement and outreach; $39 to $199 a month.
- Supergrow. AI drafting with a voice profile, an AI interviewer and voice notes, plus an employee advocacy layer for teams; $19 or $39 a month, LinkedIn only.
- MagicPost. A post generator with a writing style imported from real posts, visuals, scheduling and agency seats on LinkedIn's official API; AI drafting from $69 a month, or $39 yearly.
- Sonar. Writes the draft as well as measuring it, from your week, and reads your LinkedIn numbers back through a Chrome extension; $99 a month, every feature.
- The personal branding tools guide prices eleven tools, AuthoredUp among them, on one table, and how to write LinkedIn posts covers the craft AuthoredUp's editor helps with.
