Can Sonar publish directly to LinkedIn?

Yes. Connect LinkedIn once in Settings under Profile, Publishing, through LinkedIn's own consent screen. From then on, Post to LinkedIn now in the post drawer publishes a post to your profile and returns the live link, and a scheduled post is published within 15 minutes of its slot. Text, one image, one PDF document (a carousel) or one video can ride each post. Only a post you scheduled or pressed Post on ever goes out.

Why does Sonar copy the first comment instead of posting it?

Because LinkedIn's self-serve API tier does not allow an app to create comments, even on your own post. Sonar still tries, and when LinkedIn refuses, the comment is already on your clipboard: open the live post and paste it as the first comment. If LinkedIn grants the Community Management product later, the same code starts posting it for you without a change.

What does the Sonar for LinkedIn extension read?

The analytics already visible to you on your own LinkedIn analytics pages, linkedin.com/dashboard and linkedin.com/analytics, while you browse them in your own signed-in session: impressions, profile views, search appearances, members reached, engagements and followers. Where do my past posts and their numbers come from?

From your public profile. Sonar reads your own recent public posts by the profile URL you gave it, keeps them with their reactions, comments and reposts, and measures each against your own average. It never uses your LinkedIn login and never reads private LinkedIn data. Impressions are added by the extension when it is paired, because LinkedIn's API does not return them.

Can I use Sonar without connecting LinkedIn at all?

Yes. Every draft has a Copy button, the To-post queue hands you the post and its media at posting time, and Mark as posted keeps your calendar and your numbers honest. Connecting is what turns Post now and scheduled publishing on; nothing else depends on it.

Does Sonar reshare or comment on other people's LinkedIn posts for me?

Not through the API: LinkedIn's self-serve tier gates reshares and comments on other members' posts. So on LinkedIn, Quote writes one or two framing lines in your voice with the link, ready to post, and Comment writes a one-to-three-sentence comment in your voice, copies it and opens the post. On X, one-tap reposts are live.

One connection, granted once in Settings. Then every approved post has two ways out, and a draft has none.

What goes out
- A text post, as you edited it in the card.
- A text post with one image.
- A text post with a PDF document: the carousel LinkedIn pages through in the feed.
- A text post with a video. LinkedIn processes the file after the upload, so a video post can take a minute to appear.
When it goes out
- Post to LinkedIn now, in the post drawer: the post is saved as it is on screen, published, and the live link comes back to you.
- On the slot: schedule a post and a check every 15 minutes publishes it once its time arrives.
- Only a post whose status is Scheduled goes out on its own. A draft, or a post marked Ready, waits on the board until you move it.
- If the connection has expired when the slot arrives, the post stays scheduled for you to post by hand, and Settings asks you to reconnect.

The first comment is the one thing LinkedIn will not let an app post for you on the self-serve API tier. So when a post carries one, Sonar publishes the post, copies the comment to your clipboard, and tells you: open the post, paste it as the first comment, done.

The editor in Sonar is a LinkedIn card. The fold sits where LinkedIn folds, the count runs against LinkedIn's limit, and the first comment is drawn under the post as a real comment.

The reach you cannot see from outside

Impressions live on LinkedIn's own analytics page and nowhere in its API. With the Sonar for LinkedIn extension paired, they join your history; without it, the numbers stay honest at what is public.

The Chrome extension

Sonar for LinkedIn reads the numbers LinkedIn shows only you.

LinkedIn's API returns almost nothing about a member's own posts. Your impressions are on your analytics page, in your browser, when you are signed in. So that is where the extension reads them.

What it does
- Runs only on your own LinkedIn analytics pages, linkedin.com/dashboard and linkedin.com/analytics, while you are there.
- Reads the numbers already on your screen: impressions, profile views, search appearances, members reached, engagements and followers.
- Sends one row per day to your own Sonar workspace, with the literal LinkedIn caption each number was read under.
- Pairs itself when you open Sonar in the same browser. No codes to paste.
What it does not do
- It never reads a page you are not on, and it visits nothing on your behalf.
- It performs no actions on your LinkedIn account. Its Chrome permissions are storage, for the pairing token and the last sync time, and permission to talk to app.meetsonar.co. It holds no permission on linkedin.com beyond the two analytics pages its script runs on.
- It reports a number only when LinkedIn itself labelled it, the label names the metric exactly and the period is known. An unknown period drops the metric rather than guessing.
- A switch in Settings pauses it; uninstalling ends it. Regenerate the pairing token in Sonar and the old one is dead.

Open the Publishing panel
Sign in at app.meetsonar.co and open Settings, Profile. Below Connected sources sits Publishing, with a row for LinkedIn.

Flip the LinkedIn switch
LinkedIn's consent screen asks to verify who you are and to post on your behalf (openid, profile and w_member_social). Choose Allow. The row then reads Posting as you.

Post now, or schedule
Open any approved post. Post to LinkedIn now publishes it and hands back the live link. Or pick a slot: the scheduler publishes it within 15 minutes of the time you chose.

Paste the first comment
If the post carries a first comment, it is on your clipboard the moment the post is live. Open the post and paste it. LinkedIn's self-serve API does not let an app post it for you.

Add the extension for your reach
Install Sonar for LinkedIn from the Chrome Web Store, open Sonar once in the same browser, then open linkedin.com/dashboard. Your impressions join your history from that day on.

Reconnect about every 60 days
LinkedIn's member tokens last about 60 days and the self-serve tier issues no refresh token. When one is near its end, the row in Settings says so; flipping it on again is the whole fix.

Turning it off is the same switch, and it deletes the token Sonar held. Prefer to post by hand? Skip the connection entirely: every draft has a Copy button, and Mark as posted keeps your calendar honest. With X on as well, a LinkedIn draft can get its X sibling in X's own register, and the two ship separately.
